London United Kingdom II

Today’s post by the talented French photographer antbuchet takes us back around London United Kingdom II for a different perspective to this beautiful City.

Big Ben, the Queen, red buses, black cabs, beefeaters, umbrellas and Harry Potter are some of the first images that pop into mind when thinking about London, but there is so much more to it. From the tattoo parlours of Shoreditch, deers of Richmond Park, markets of Camden to some of the greatest museums in the world, there is something for everyone in London. It’s such a vibrant, cosmopolitan and unique metropolis, it is literally impossible to get bored here. Samuel Johnson was spot on when he once said ‘When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life’.

Being a Londonder

Being a Londoner by adoption, I fell in love with this city at first sight. I most enjoy taking an early stroll by the Thames at sunrise. Happiness is made up of little pleasures and I really get a kick out of watching the sun rising behind Tower Bridge. The show starts with an amazing warm golden light combined with some amazing reflections, shadows and textures all over. Mixing old and new architecture, the City of London is simply incredible at first light. Once done, I usually jump on a boat in direction of Big Ben while soaking up the sights.

Chasing the light, a perfect day in London should always finish at Big Ben, watching the sun disappearing behind the clock tower. Capturing the change of weather and light over Parliament has been the obsession of many artists including Turner and Monet for centuries. To this day, witnessing the sun setting behind this neo-gothic marvel is still breath-taking.

London, the one and only, it makes sense that over 7 million people decided to call it home.

I love having my cuppa at my favourite river side pub overlooking the Thames, and watching the world go by.
